  • My Fears, My Drive

The reason I force myself to read, the reason I can’t stop improving, the reason I’m so bent on getting better, the reason I want to be rich is because of fear.

I fear that in the future, I might end up being broke, I fear that I might end up as nothing, I fear that If I do not do the right things now, I might end up regretting it.

Sometimes I remember the popular quote which says, “In old age, we will regret what we didn’t do more than those things we did.”

My fears have been my big push for along time, I don’t know where these phobias are coming from but I have a lot of them. Do you know I have a fear of being mediocre? I hate it and I don’t want to be mediocre! Sometimes when I find myself knowing nothing about somethings, I cry inside and I go all the way out to learn.

Instead of letting your fear cripple you, let it push you to be better! Let it be your driving force! I fear that I might be poor, that’s why I strive to become better and rich. I fear that I might be mediocre, that’s why I seek so much knowledge.

Try it! Fail at it! Try it! Do it again! At least, you are trying to b better, you would have learned a thing or two. You will be better than a mediocre.

More like, It’s better to fail at doing something than not doing it at all. What even does failure mean? Not doing anything or learning from a path that does not work?
Trying things out and exploring your options?

Sometimes, I feel like it’s because the world does not encourage people to try something and fail at it the first time, that’s why young people do not want to try anything at all, perhaps, if they don’t do anything worthwhile, they won’t be held responsible for failing.

But today, I encourage you to become better, I encourage you to read that book, eat that food, save that cash, improve that skill set, learn that thing and fail. You’ll always be better than someone afraid to try.

  • Yours Not Mine

    Shadows, shadows All I see
A combination of light and some little darkness

Locked up, the passions of my heart
Left out, the vision of my mind
Hindered, the motions of my feet

    I breathe, but not alive
    I move, but not progressing
    I laugh, but not happy

    I wanna live my dreams
The more I rise, the more I fall
I live not my dreams, I live another’s

    Held down by traditions
    Pulled back by expectations
    Pressed down by customs

    Rising out of the ashes
Today, I refuse to be pulled back
Today, I refuse to be boxed up

    It’s yours not mine
    The dreams I’ve been living
No more, now mine I live

  • New But Old

Life is full of ups and downs, reasons to give up and at other times, reasons to hold on and be strong. But in all, one thing remains constant and that is change. Everyone experiences change at some point in time. The kind of change experienced however is determined by the individual. There are some who change in the negative sense of it but there are some who are blessed to experience positive change. The decisions of each individual determines the resultant effect of the change a man experience. Change in the negative sense is synonymous to recycling the same bad actions of the past.Beginning a new year with fresh hopes is one thing, but pursuing the same with renewed energy and passion is another. The reason why people keep experiencing the same old results as previous years is because while physically, things seems new but in their mind, they are not renewed. They still carry the same old mindset that is responsible for the negativity they’ve experienced thus far and if questioned about it, you see a jealously guarded treasured garbage. If the coming year is going to be productive and positive, it has to start with a renewed mindset ready to take on the challenges, make adjustments where necessary and work hard for the best. Don’t enter a new year with an old mindset. Take time off activities and look deep down to see what needs to be changed!

  • The Land of Ajiun 2

People were worried, no one could tell where Adio is. Adigun still looked troubled and his countenance was not favorable. Adio had asked his workers to immediately plant cassava stem after the harvest. Everything had seem to be going on well, but why would Adigun be this worried? Adio was already thinking of getting more land to start cocoa farm also once this new harvest of cassava sells well as projected.

She was at home, cleaning the house, washing her husband’s clothes and gathering sticks to prepare food for her husband when suddenly Adigun ran in seeking for Adio, this frightened Asunke, the wife of Adio who answered in fear that he wasn’t at home, immediately Adigun ran out of the house again.

Adio had gone on a trip, after he set up his goods in the market and put one of his boys in charge. He went to Itedo to conclude a business deal with his new partners who were willing to buy cassava in large quantities to process into garri. When he came back, he couldn’t understand what was happening and what people were saying. At first, he didn’t know what to do but later summoned courage and went to his farm.

Ajiun was a village with none of the social amenities that makes life comfortable. People were seen carrying buckets of water running towards his farm. From afar, one could see smoke rising up in the air. The farm had a farmstead with lanterns kept to lighten up the place at night. Inside the lanterns was kerosene to keep the fire burning. Adio’s farm had caught fire and his storage ban and farm land had been up in flames. It took the help of some of the villagers to help put out the fire to the level that Adio met it.

He couldn’t believe what his eyes was seeing, all his investments were up in flames. How would he start again? How could he ever survive the impact of this wreckage? At the sight of this, he slumped and was rushed to the native doctor who helped to revive him. After he got home, his wife made sure he got some rest, but she also was down in thoughts and was saddened.

The villagers held a meeting as to how they could help Adio. They all decided to contribute a sum of money to help him revive his farm and business.

The year after this incident, Adio was up again and his business was gradually flourishing once more. One thing that the Land of Ajiun was known for was their ability to help each other when in need. This singular act has made them the talking point among many surrounding villages. Their population increases yearly because many people get to make the Land their home as a result of this love they shared!

  • Between Now and Future

For most people, if not all, they are always concerned about what the future holds which is further compounded by the fact that the present does not look like what they had envisioned in the past. As a result, some tend to give up when after few trials, their present situation refuses to conform to the future they saw.
Like somebody said, the difference between ‘here’ and ‘there’ is ‘T’ which symbolises Time. In the same vein, the difference between Now and Future is Time.

Time is the allowance given to you most importantly to invest the kind of values and virtues that will translate into the kind of future you desire for you now! While you may be there grumbling and complaining about your present challenges and tough times, why not turn them into raw materials by putting your time into good use, equipping yourself, learning valuable skills, picking up lessons from your mistakes, forgiving yourself, moving on, growing and rising.

Understand, you can either spend time or invest time, the choice is yours. When you spend time, you have no assurance or hope of having it back but when time is invested, it returns to you as value! What makes some persons more valuable that others is the amount of time they’ve invested in adding value to themselves! Every great man you admire and wish to be like today didn’t reach their greatness all in one day, one week, one month or even one year. They kept growing silently but surely, and it came to a point where their success could no longer be hidden, they became sought after. Meanwhile during the period of dryness, where no one knew them or paid attention to them, they were not deterred but kept building up themselves.

If those great men could do it, then you can do it also. Keep at it. Between now and the future you desire is time, use it wisely: your life depends on it.
